I really despise how inescapable AI is becoming in everyday life.
From being forced to use AI chatbots for my college assignments, to scanning for AI-generated content in articles I read for research, and even weeding through AI images when I put these videos together.
I know it’s even more exhausting for writers and artists. Showing basic proficiency in English—such as using an em dash or a colon—can lead to accusations of using AI. Artists whose work resembles AI-generated images (because their art was used without their consent to train those models) often have to prove themselves to the court of online opinion.
Not to mention the ecological ramifications of new data centers being built all over the country, even when local residents vote against their construction in their communities.
I think the only saving grace is that the AI bubble seems to be popping (or at least slowly deflating) as companies struggle to turn their AI models into profitable business ventures.
I can only hope it goes the way of the cryptocurrency boom of 2022, although AI is more like a Pandora’s box that tech billionaires opened and that we will never be able to fully close.
