1. Stark County High School Art Exhibition

Student art is alive and thriving in the Canton area as evidenced by the fabulous array of works showcased at the Canton Museum of Art.

The Stark County High School Art Exhibition is on display through April 5, with artwork from high schools that include Alliance, Canton South, Choices, East Canton, Fairless, GlenOak, Green, Hoover, Jackson, Louisville, McKinley, Minerva, Perry, Sandy Valley and Tuslaw.

Student work is judged on the basis of originality and technical ability. More than 100 pieces in a variety of media are on display.

Work is in oil paintings, colored pencil, digital art, printing ink, digital art, acrylic, charcoal, collage, embroidery and photography.

Award winners included Nate Boyd of Canton South High School, $1,000 for a mixed media costume fabrication piece; Audrey Howell of Alliance High School, $500 for embroidery; and Luke Lehman of Jackson High School, $500 for photography.

The Canton Museum of Art is presenting the Canton Artists League exhibition through April 5.

The Canton Artists League is an affiliate group of the museum. The artists league is a forum for artists, photographers and craftspeople to meet and help further their creativity through exhibits and workshops, the museum said.

Participating artists include professional, semi-professional and amateur visual artists. Members of the Canton Artists League live in Stark County and neighboring areas.

Admission is free during the exhibition. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Monday.
