The Rock lost 30 pounds for his upcoming movie Lizard Music. However, he says he might have a bit more work to do on his physique.

This week, The Rock’s new movie, The Smashing Machine, starring alongside Emily Blunt and directed by Benny Safdie, hits theaters. He looks almost unrecognizable in the film, and critics are already calling it one of the best performances of his career.

Even before the release, he had already started preparing for his next project with Safdie, a movie called Lizard Music. In this movie, he plays the unusual character Chicken Man, a 70-year-old man whose best friend is a chicken.

During a recent interview with Variety on the red carpet for The Smashing Machine in Los Angeles, The Rock spoke about his recent weight loss journey. He explained that he slimmed down for his upcoming movie, but he’d also put on weight to play Kerr in The Smashing Machine.

“Thank you very much. Happy not to carry all the weight. I feel good. I’m able to tuck my shirt in now. You know, I am slimming down for our movie yes, Lizard Music. Can’t wait.”

When asked how much more weight he planned to lose, The Rock explained, “Well, I stay in the zone. This is for my next role with Benny in Lizard Music, where I play a 75-year-old man. So I’m up there, Mark. He’s like, think Clint Eastwood at 75 lean, but it feels good.”

“I gained 30 pounds for the role in The Smashing Machine, and it’s good to finally get it off. I had to maintain it for live-action Moana too, so it’s been seven months of carrying those 30 pounds. That’s a lot. It really weighs on you. But now, I feel much better.”

Ryan Bader, who plays Mark Coleman in The Smashing Machine, spoke with WrestleZone about his working relationship with The Rock. This was Bader’s film debut, but he praised The Rock for making him feel more comfortable on set.
