Meghan Markle‘s father previously made a heartbreaking statement about his funeral prior to his recent health battle. Thomas Markle, 81, is currently in a “stable” condition after undergoing surgery at a hospital in the Philippines after falling ill at his home.
After being taken to the hospital, he underwent a three-hour operation on Wednesday to remove his left foot and lower leg after a circulation issue turned the limb black and blue. Giving recent updates on his dad’s condition, his son Thomas Markle Jr said: “It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital, and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.”
Meghan, 44, has been estranged from her dad Thomas since 2018, with fans now encouraging her to make a trip to the Philippines to see her dad in hospital.
Thomas was absent from Meghan and Harry’s fairytale wedding due to having suffered two heart attacks prior to the big day.
Writing in her article for the Daily Mail back in October, journalist Caroline Graham revealed she was left “terrified” when a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit as she met Thomas for an interview in his 19th-floor apartment in the Philippines.
She then revealed that the pair “talked for hours”, at which point Tom “turned reflective”.
He then reportedly asked her if, in the event of their death that day, with the disaster happening around them, she thinks Meghan would attend his funeral. She said that he said to her, “Do you think Meghan will come to my funeral?”.
Lightening the mood, she then claimed he also asked, with a chuckle: “Will I get a better funeral because my son-in-law is fifth in line to the throne?”
Having not been in contact with his daughter for eight years, Thomas has never met Prince Harry, whom Meghan married in 2018, nor his grandchildren, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.
