Vermonters made their presence known on the list of Grammy nominations Nov. 7, with natives of Waitsfield, Jericho and Barre earning nods for the biggest prize in music.
The Grammy Awards will be handed out in a ceremony Sunday, Feb. 1, in Los Angeles and will be broadcast by CBS and streamed on Paramount+. Big-name artists such as Chappell Roan, Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar are all over the top categories (Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year), but Vermont musicians show up in a few of the other 90-plus.
Read on to find out which Vermonters are nominated in which categories:
Vermont rock musician Grace Potter
Grace Potter, Best Americana Performance
The Waitsfield rocker, a past Grammy nominee, is again searching for her first award. Her Best Americana Performance nomination is a joint effort with Maggie Rose for the song “Poison In My Well.” They’ll be competing for the prize with Sierra Hull, Mavis Staples, Molly Tuttle and Jesse Welles.
Erin Bentlage of säje, Best Arrangement, Instrument and Vocals
The Jericho native and member of the vocal group säje is a two-time Grammy winner. Her arranging skills pay off once again with a nod for Best Arrangement, Instrument and Vocals. Bentlage and her fellow members of säje — Sara Gazarek, Johnaye Kendrick and Amanda Taylor — join her and singer Nate Smith for their work on Smith’s song “Big Fish.” They’re in the same category with nominees Seth MacFarlane, frequent säje collaborator Jacob Collier, Lawrence and Cody Fry.
Pianist and Barre native Adam Tendler
Adam Tendler, Best Classical Instrumental Solo
A Barre-area native, Tendler is searching for his first Grammy Award. The pianist is nominated for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his composition “Inheritances.” He’ll vie for the prize against recordings by the National Philharmonic, the Venezuela Strings Recording Ensemble, the Malmö Opera Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
