A woman who has grown a huge following on social media named Mara Flávia has reportedly passed away after taking part in Iron Texas triathlon as her followers paid tribute to her
A TikTok star and triathlete has died after drowning during a major competition in Texas, as authorities continue to investigate the tragic incident.
According to People magazine, Brazilian athlete and influencer Mara Flávia, 38, died while taking part in the swimming portion of the Ironman Texas triathlon in The Woodlands on Saturday, April 18.
Emergency crews were called after Flávia got into difficulty in Lake Woodlands shortly after the race began. Fellow competitors and lifeguards rushed to help, but despite repeated rescue attempts, she could not be saved. A dive team later recovered her body at around 9 a.m. local time. Meanwhile, there is a frantic search underway for a Michigan mom who fell overboard during a Bahamas boat trip.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident in a statement shared on Facebook, saying, “The MCSO can confirm that a participant in today’s Ironman Triathlon in the Woodlands has drowned….The Woodlands Fire Department (WFD) completed the rescue in Lake Woodlands near North Shore Park.”
“Once it was determined the participant was deceased, the MCSO began their investigation into this drowning per normal protocols.”
Officials added, “MCSO Major Crimes detectives are on scene and will continue their investigation..Our deepest sympathy goes to the family and friends of this participant.”
While authorities did not initially release her name, Brazilian outlets later identified the competitor as Flávia.
Event organizers also confirmed the devastating news. In a statement, Ironman Texas said, “We are saddened to confirm the death of a race participant during the swim portion of today’s IRONMAN Texas triathlon. We send our deepest sympathies to the family…and will offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders for their assistance.”
The grueling event includes a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and a full marathon.
Flávia had built a following of more than 60,000 on Instagram, where she documented her journey as an endurance athlete. She previously worked as a journalist in radio and television before transitioning into sport in her late twenties, according to Brazilian reports. Her death remains under investigation.
Tributes have poured in for her on social media. One person wrote, “So tragic.” Another person chimed in, “SO sad. So tragic to see this could happened to good people (sic.)”
A third person wrote, “Oh no, At least she passed doing something she loved. She looked so fit and healthy, but the flu can really affect you.”
