Timothée Chalamet’s latest movie, Marty Supreme, has been causing a serious buzz ever since the promo cycle began last year, with the film being released to both critical and fan acclaim.
Timmy himself has been lauded for his performance as the titular character, and has so far won a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award this season, and is hotly tipped to win the Best Actor Oscar in March, too — although nominations are yet to be announced.
Now, Timothée has revealed that filming the movie wasn’t always plain sailing, and that he was even threatened by a background actor who lost his cool with him on set.
During a recent Q&A with Robert Downey Jr. in New York, Timmy revealed, per People: “I won’t say who, but in that motel sequence, there are a lot of non-actors that I find it really thrilling to work with, but sometimes it would take multiple takes to really get something out of them.”
“And I’m really getting in the guy’s face and I’m really trying to get him angry with me. I was saying to Josh [Safdie, the director]: ‘He’s not getting angry with me, he’s not getting angry with me,’” the star recalled.
But Timmy was mistaken, with the star totally unaware that he was on the brink of getting a rise out of the person in question.
“I did another take, and then the guy said: ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to fuck with me. You don’t want to see me angry,’” Timothée nervously laughed. “I said to Josh: ‘Holy shit, who do you have me opposite, man?’”
And people have been left pretty taken aback by this revelation, with one person tweeting: “Interested to know the legalities on background checks work for ‘non actors’ within the industry… someone fresh out of jail straight up threatened one of the biggest movie stars ON SET like it was the streets.”
