Good evening, Royalists!
I am bursting with excitement to tell you about the fantastic episode of The Royalist podcast I have lined up this evening. I’m also overtired, and I messed up the initial send. Apologies to paid subscribers who are getting this twice.
Pace the internet gods, it should be going live on this YouTube link (also below in due course) at or before 7 p.m. Eastern time, which is midnight UK time, so if you are tucked up in your four-poster bed, having consumed a healthy mug of steaming cocoa by that time, I would not blame you, and tomorrow, it will be on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and all the audio platforms as well, so you will not have to look at me while I am talking!
If this link doesn’t start working soon, I apologize, please head to The Royalist channel on YT.
I, however, will NOT BE ABLE TO SLEEP until I see it!
But I need to get to the point! Which is that, this is a fantastic podcast because we have an exclusive bombshell interview with Matt Donnelly.
Matt is chief correspondent at Variety and an extremely accomplished and respected journalist who published that extraordinary takedown of the relationship between the Sussexes and Netflix two weeks ago.
Matt joined me for an absolutely scintillating roast of Meghan and Harry, and just to give you a taste of some of the things he will be talking about, he tells me how the Sussexes have “tried to shift blame” for some of the failures that have happened on their watch, he tells me that top talent does not want to work with them because they just do not need “an added layer of headache.” He tells me that people are very nervous about socializing with them because, after the Kardashian party, “a simple social invite” became “a five-car PR pileup.”
The podcast format really suits Matt’s style, because he is such a brilliant, gossipy writer, and I promise you will feel like you are hanging out at the Chateau with a real insider who is regaling you with incredible insights. I would argue that speaking in conversation, Matt is able to go even further than he did in his original story. I predict the interview will be harvested for headliens around the world tomorrow.
Here’s some I wargamed earlier:
How Harry and Meghan Blew Through $60 million of Netflix’s Cash
Why Top Talent in Hollywood Are Shunning Harry and Meghan
“Tiresome” Harry and Meghan Have “Failed” Top Hollywood Insider Reveals
So, please, anyone, feel free to lift and use these but do credit me, yeah? I get pissed when people nick my stories and don’t credit me!!
Matt is so enthralling as he tells me about the exhaustion among the Netflix staff who had to deal with them.
But the killer thing he will be telling us about is an incredible revelation about what I am calling Polo 2, this new fictional polo offering that Harry and Meghan announced immediately after the article came out in what was a naked attempt to discredit the narrative in Matt’s Variety piece.
Matt has an absolutely ridiculous insight about that, which he is revealing exclusively on the podcast, and I promise you it will make your jaw drop on the floor, because it is a textbook case of powerful people manipulating the narrative to keep the talent happy.
He makes a fascinating point, which is that ultimately, Netflix’s biggest job is talent relations. They are not in the business of having people walk away annoyed, furious, and angry.
But he says that a lot of what Meghan and Harry are doing now “reeks” of “desperation,” and this attempt to pull Polo 2 out of the bag was, at best, disingenuous in the way it was announced. At worst, it was a dishonest attempt to discredit his reporting.
This is incredibly unfair.
If the Sussexes want to pick a fight with a reporter, then I can tell you that after watching this interview, you will agree that, in the impeccably-sourced Matt Donnelly, they have definitely picked the wrong fellow.
Please do come over and watch it. The link is below, so you can watch it here without leaving Substack, or, as I say, you can get it on the audio platforms tomorrow.
We also have my sis Plum Sykes talking about fashion, covering Beatrice and Eugenie’s (very expensive) style transformations, and Paula and me discussing King Charles’s imminent state visit to the United States, which will see the King stepping into the house of crazy.
So it is a packed episode, and my God, I am looking forward to it going live in just a little under two hours.
I will be joining the chat live as it goes out.
It is our third episode, and we hope we can live up to the high standards of the first two. Please, please join us, please like and share, and please join in the conversation, because all of that helps keep the gaslight flickering here at Royals Towers.
Thank you so much! See ya there!
