One of the trends in the TikTokiverse this past year is the company being more confident trumpeting the success of artists distributing their music through its SoundOn arm. Not least because it’s an excuse to also hold them up as examples of TikTok virality driving streams elsewhere. Tkandz and Cxsper are the latest artists to get the spotlight.
Their ‘Now or Never’ track has raced to more than 1.5m creations and 3.36bn video views on TikTok according to the company. Stats that come with the caveat that TikTok has the ability to (and increasingly frequently does) throw its full promotional weight behind artists who put their music out through its in-house distribution arm.
But TikTok is also shouting about ‘Now or Never’s crossover to streaming success, charting in the UK, Germany and Austria as well as entering Spotify’s Top 100 global chart. “A defining moment for UK Rap, showing just how far homegrown talent can travel when it’s given the right platform,” said SoundOn head of label services EMEA James Cattermole.
