Randy Newman’s ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’ is perhaps one of the most iconic theme songs in film history – with just a few notes of the cheerful introduction enough to instantly transport anyone to the world of Toy Story.
Since the first film’s release back in 1995, Newman’s music has also become a staple of Pixar more generally, with the great singer/songwriter having also penned scores and songs for A Bug’s Life, Monster’s Inc and Cars, in addition to their various sequels.
It’s no surprise, then, that Newman is back with a new score for the fifth Toy Story instalment – and he’s not the only major musician whose contributing to Buzz, Woody and co’s latest outing.
None other than pop superstar Taylor Swift has also penned a brand new song titled I Knew It, I Knew You for the film, co-written with regular collaborator Jack Antonoff.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time,” she wrote on Instagram when announcing the track.
“Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
