Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announced their engagement on August 26, with a beautiful post showing the gorgeous array of flowers and foliage surrounding the happy couple during their big moment. That big moment had apparently been in the works for months, according to a friend of the Kansas City Chiefs star.
Actor and comedian Andrew Santino shared during an episode of his podcast Pardon My Take, posted September 12, that Kelce mentioned the plan months ago. According to Santino, the last time the pair hung out, Kelce “said he was wanting to” propose.
“We had golf together in, like, April or May. And yeah, he said he was [going to propose] but he didn’t say when,” explained Santino. “I don’t pry. It’s like that thing about the memes online where women are like, ‘You golfed with your buddy. Like, what happened with his divorce?’ We didn’t talk about it.”
He continued, “I’m not saying I don’t care. I’m stoked. I hope it’s awesome! But I’m not gonna be like, ‘What day? When ya doing it? What’s going on?’”
The podcaster did reach out after the engagement was public.
“We just Facetimed him to say congrats,” he said. “And he said, ‘What’s up?’ to my pops. My dad was like, ‘Am I goin’? Do I get an invite?’ Actually it’d be funnier if he went and I didn’t go.”
Santino did not in fact seem to think either he nor his father would be attending the wedding, whenever it takes place.
“He’s got a lot of dogs from Ohio that he’s loyal to the foil on [who] will be there for sure,” he said. “But they grew up with him and everything. You know. I’m an adult friend. That’s a different—adult friends are different. We met later in life and I’m sure when they’re going down the list, she’ll get to Santino and be like, ‘I don’t know dude.’”
The comedian joked that Swift would be “controlling that guest list,” and that he wouldn’t be on it, adding, “Dude, Trav is my boy. I love him to death.”
