Donald Trump appeared to correct a blunder from his part interactions with the late Queen Elizabeth as he continues welcoming King Charles and Queen Camilla during their current state visit
Donald Trump appeared to have learned something from his UK visit to see then-Queen Elizabeth during his first term as president, as he notably made a major alteration when it came time to welcome King Charles to the United States for his April 28, 2026 visit.
King Charles III is currently visiting the United States as part of his first state visit to the country since he assumed the throne following his mother’s death in 2022. The exciting trip marks the first time a British monarch has officially visited the US since 2007, when Queen Elizabeth II spent time in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Kentucky, while George W. Bush was president.
Prior to Charles’ visit to the United States, which saw Trump humiliated by laughter over a comment he made to the monarch, the 79-year-old president made visits to the UK for his own state dinners, during both his first and second terms in office.

During his first term, which was during Queen Elizabeth’s tenure, he made a visit to the UK in 2019 and attended a state dinner with the monarch and his wife, Melania Trump.
However, his attire for the meal raised eyebrows at the time for looking not quite right.
While he did opt for white tie at the meal, which was correct for royal protocol, his jacket and vest were not correctly sized. While his short jacket was not wrong, as jackets are meant to be shorter than they are typically in the United States, his choice of an extra long vest missed the mark.
The long vest appeared to make up for the fact that Trump was unable to wear his signature long ties at the time in favor of a bow tie.
However, after being mocked for the attire after 2019, he appeared to fix the problem when it came to Charles’ visit to the U.S. now.
As Charles, Camilla, Melania and Trump all posed at the April 28 state dinner, Trump seemed to get the look right this time around, with a shorter vest and longer jacket.
Posing next to the king, he stood with his long black jacket and pants, with white bow tie, shirt and vest. The vest notably stopped just after the wasitline of his pants.
Charles opted for a similar look in terms of tuxedo, though his was accented with his war medals and other paraphernalia.
Queen Camilla and Melania appeared to coordinate their looks for the evening, with both opting for shades of pink.
Camilla, 78, opted for a bright pink long-sleeved gown with a beaded bodice.
She accented her look with a small clutch, two silver bracelets on each wrist, a large black and silver statement necklace.
