Prince William reportedly has big plans for his cousin Zara Tindall to take on a more prominent role when he becomes King.
Zara, 44, has never been a working member of the Royal Family and does not hold any titles, but an insider claims William will count on her to represent The Firm and support him during his reign.
“After Harry and Andrew, William understands completely the importance of having trust — and Zara, along with her husband Mike, are definitely in that category,” a royal source told New Idea.
“It’s no secret William has plans for Zara when he takes over and already there’s been talk of her taking on patronage of the Royal Stud at Sandringham, plus some oversight of royal racing interests at events like Ascot and Cheltenham.
“It makes complete sense as William’s nowhere near as enthusiastic about equestrian pursuits like his grandmother was, so delegating this entirely to Zara is a brilliant plan.
“This new role plays into Zara’s strengths as an Olympic silver-medal equestrian.”
The Royal Stud at Sandringham is a major breeding facility for Thoroughbred racehorses, founded in 1886. King Charles and Queen Camilla inherited the patronage following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022.
Tindall is thought to be well-suited for the role, given she is one of the UK’s most accomplished equestrians with a 2006 World Championship title and 2012 Olympic silver medal to her name.
The Prince of Wales and Zara have always been close, but the insider says their bond has strengthened following Prince Harry’s move to California and the scandal surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
“William is looking for reliable reinforcements he can trust, and Zara — who’s loyal, popular and genuinely passionate about horses — is the perfect fit for a prestigious role that plays to her strengths without forcing her into full-time royal duties,” they said.
Last week, the Olympian made a surprise appearance by her cousin’s side at the Buckingham Palace garden party, which honoured the work of charities and community volunteers.
It is understood to be just the second time she has attended one of these events, with the other being in 2024.
William was called upon to host the party on behalf of King Charles, so it’s suspected that Tindall attended to support him.
It comes after reports Zara persuaded Princess Eugenie to confide in King Charles about her pregnancy after being fearful of a “frosty reception”.
Buckingham Palace announced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s daughter’s third pregnancy last week, stating the King is “delighted” by the news.
A source told the Daily Mail that Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank were “surprised by the warmth of the Palace response”, and would not have approached them if it weren’t for Zara.
