Sean Penn was not able to accept his Best Supporting Actor Oscar on Sunday because he was en route to Ukraine. But the Ukrainian people didn’t want him to go empty-handed.
On Tuesday, Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, the CEO of Ukrainian Railways, gifted Penn with a homemade Oscar (Pertsovskyi calls it an “IronOscar”) made from a railcar damaged by the Russians in the ongoing war. “You’re missing the Oscar,” Pertsovskyi told the actor and political activist in a social media video. “Plus, you gave the last one to the president [Volodymyr Zelenskyy]. So, we made this one. You said the metals survived, so we put some words here that are very special to us.
