WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) is hosting a series of concerts to benefit its students.
The first concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday with a Wind Symphony and Symphonic Wind Ensemble Concert.
The ticketed event will feature various performances from students in the music department.
“Students need practice performing, and so that’s what we are training them to do here, we are training them to be professional musicians, and so in order to do that, they have to perform,” Mathew Buchman, the Music Department Chair at UWSP.
“Plus, there is so much music out there we wanna share with the community.”
University staff said the concerts also help each student develop their professional performance skills.
Below you can find a list of the upcoming concerts after Thursday:
- Wednesday, Oct. 8 – Symphony Orchestra Concert
- Wednesday, Oct. 15 – Campus Band, Campus Orchestra and Campus Choir Concert
- Friday, Oct. 17 – UWSP Choirs Concert
- Tuesday, Oct. 21 – Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble Concert
The concerts will take place in the Michelsen Hall located inside the Noel Fine Arts Center at 1800 Portage Street.
Tickets are $18 for the general public, $16 for seniors (62+), $10 for youth (under 18) and UWSP employees.
The proceeds from the tickets will be allocated toward current and future student scholarships in the program.
“The money that we generate through the large ensemble concerts goes into a fund, and out of that fund we support our students through scholarships,” Buchman said.
The music the students will perform ranges from classical to new composers. Student work will also be performed during the concerts.
