The University of Southern California can’t duck a music-copyright suit after a New York federal court found a slew of music labels established that the Empire State has jurisdiction over it.
USC organizes recruiting, admissions, networking, and sports events; generates revenue; and conducts academic programs in New York, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Tuesday. The labels established USC should have reasonably expected its conduct to have consequences in New York, the court said as it found jurisdiction under New York’s long-arm statute.
