The Emerging Artist Festival in Brattleboro is an annual two-day event, held the first weekend of November, showcasing talented young jazz musicians through performances, mentorship, and educational clinics, with featured headliners often joining student ensembles for concerts and workshops.
The focus of the festival is celebrating and mentoring high school and college-level jazz performers.
Sarah Ozga, communications and operations manager for the Vermont Jazz Center, said there are students coming from eight different schools as well as some unaffiliated students, including 14 from Brattleboro Union High School, and others from Northfield-Mount Hermon in Gill, Mass., Amherst, Mass., High School, and Vermont Academy in Saxtons River.
The festival is sponsored by Marcy Hermansader in honor of her late husband, Jonathan Flaccus, who operated the Unique Antique in Putney for 38 years and was an active supporter of the Vermont Jazz Center.
