Thelma Harper, aka “Mama,” at left, is a television character played by actress and comedienne Vicki Lawrence, at right. Lawrence and “Mama” are to perform a two-woman comedy show in Greensburg on Sept. 14.

Lawrence describes the show as “a mixture of standup comedy, music and observations about life” in a statement at the Palace Theatre website. Lawrence will open the show as herself, and Mama will appear in the second half, ready and willing to share her thoughts and opinions with the entire audience.

“I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about,” Lawrence said on the Palace Theatre’s website. “Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. “There’s really nothing she can’t do.”

Lawrence appeared as a cast member on the “Carol Burnett Show” from 1967 to 1978, bringing the character of Thelma Harper, mother to Burnett’s character Eunice (Harper) Higgins, into the sketch comedy show for its last five seasons.

Lawrence then starred for six years in “Mama’s Family,” a spin-off sitcom featuring Lawrence as Thelma Harper, or “Mama,” with Ken Berry as her son Vinton Harper, Dorothy Lyman as daughter-in-law Naomi Harper, Allan Kayser as grandson Bubba Higgins, Eunice’s son, and Beverly Archer as Iola Boylen, Thelma’s neighbor.

Tickets to “Vicki Lawrence and Mama–a Two-Woman Show” can be purchased online at the Palace Theatre website or by calling 724-836-8000. The show is presented by Latshaw Productions.
