Paul Bettany recently shared new details about his return as White Vision in Marvel’s upcoming series VisionQuest. He discussed exploring the character’s inner world, working with creator Terry Matalas, and the complex dynamic between Vision and the AIs inside his mind.

Collider spoke with Vision Quest star Paul Bettany following Marvel’s panel at New York Comic Con. During the interview, he discussed the Disney+ spin-off and teased new details about White Vision’s internal world. “One of the things that’s fun about that is that we finally get to see what it’s like inside Vision’s mind, and it’s more cluttered than you would think,” Bettany said.
“He’s clearly been saving and copying and pasting them to keep them alive inside his head. One of them, of course, has to be kept behind a pretty impressive firewall because he’s a psychopath. But he’s a clever one.”
Bettany confirmed that Vision’s consciousness holds multiple artificial intelligences, including Iron Man’s DUM-E and U, both featured in the series. He referred to a “psychopath,” pointing to Ultron, played again by James Spader, indicating that Vision still battles traces of his creator’s programming. This conflict drives the series’ focus on Vision’s evolving identity and his struggle to achieve emotional autonomy.
Terry Matalas, the Star Trek: Picard Season 3 showrunner and VisionQuest creator, developed the series to continue White Vision’s story after WandaVision. Bettany noted, “When we leave him, he’s given access to all of Red Vision’s memories, even his memories within the hex.”
He added, “Terry had a really great pitch for how he was going to… he’s struggling. White Vision is really struggling with how he was going to attach feeling to those memories.”
Bettany praised Matalas’ visual approach to depicting Vision’s psychological and emotional evolution. Alongside Bettany and Spader, the cast includes Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, and Faran Tahir reprising his role as Raza. Directed by Christopher J. Byrne and Gandja Monteiro, VisionQuest premieres on Disney+ in 2026.
