We meet Vladimir’s heroine (Rachel Weisz) in a moment of reverie. A writer and professor whose creative spark has only recently been reignited, she puts down her pen and speaks directly to the camera: “It has come to my attention that I may never again have power over another human being.”
This is the first time we hear from the unnamed protagonist of the limited series, played to stunning heights by Weisz. Her version of events, and her desperation to will fantasy into reality, remains our vantage point throughout the eight episodes. “The protagonist is reliable in the sense that she wants to control her narrative,” Weisz tells Netflix.
