Prime Video drew criticism after its digital release preview for Weapons revealed a major plot twist. The film, directed by Zach Cregger, has just arrived on digital platforms following a strong box office run. The autoplay clip quickly sparked frustration among horror fans online.

Prime Video’s Weapons preview spoils its key twist

Prime Video has faced backlash from horror fans after its preview for Weapons spoiled a major twist. Cregger’s new film, a mix of dark comedy and supernatural horror, was released digitally on September 9, 2025. It earned over $253 million worldwide against a $38 million budget. Viewers reported that the Weapons landing page on Prime Video autoplayed a scene that revealed Gladys’ true nature.

The preview opens with Alex’s parents stabbing themselves in the face using forks, a moment already seen in the official trailer. It then shows Gladys throwing her cursed stick into the water, making Alex’s parents stop. This moment exposes her as a witch. The twist that Gladys preys on children from Alex’s classroom to rejuvenate herself is central to the film’s suspense.

Fans voiced their frustration online. One comment read, “Went to buy Weapons on Prime and the scene they show literally gives away the twist of the movie? So weird, and disappointing for anyone who didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters.”

Another added, “Incoming ‘Its out of context’ defense, like the human brain isnt capable of putting pieces together once you see the characters or setting in the movie lmao. Movie trailer spoilers have gotten totally out of control.”

Others compared the issue to similar incidents. One viewer noted, “I remember when Longlegs came to Prime being shocked that the description completely spoils major twists in it. Oh my god I just looked, why is that what they show?!?! Why not an actual trailer?” Another pointed out, “HBO does the same thing in their description of Companion. They give away the twist in the first half of the sentence.”

Some highlighted that alternate clips appeared in different regions, with one saying the preview showed Josh Brolin asking to see Ring Camera footage instead of the witchcraft reveal.
