Weapons star Amy Madigan has finally weighed in on the reports that her character in the film could be about to get her own spin-off.
Although she doesn’t make a proper appearance on screen until well past the halfway mark, there’s no denying that Amy is the true scene-stealer in Zach Cregger’s much-discussed new horror movie, in which she stars as the bizarre “aunt Gladys”.
Since Weapons’ release earlier this month, there’s been no end of dissection of the Gladys character, with Deadline reporting last week that production company New Line is in “early talks” about a prequel movie which would explore her origins.
Amy has now given her first interviews about Weapons, in which she shared her take on whether she’d be up for donning that iconic red wig again and picking out some new sparkly brooches to play Gladys again.
“I think it’s really nice to be in a conversation,” the Oscar nominee told The New York Times. “I’m definitely not poo-pooing it, but because I have been doing this for a long time, things aren’t real till they’re real.
“Listen, I love Gladys, I love being in Zach’s imagination and being on Zach’s page, but what are people going to talk about in a couple of weeks or in November? It’s great and exciting when people talk about it, but I’m one of those people that kind of takes it with a grain of salt.”
She added: “I don’t know how to answer that right now. I’m not saying no, I just really would want to mix it up with Zach.”

During a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, she also claimed: “I just had such a great time working with Zach and being inside that brain of his. That’s really the gift of how the movie came out.
“The other stuff has to do with all sorts of conversations that I would never be privy in and business things like that. But, you know, I love Gladys, so I’ll leave it at that.”
Following the success of Weapons, Zach’s next project will be a reboot of the Resident Evil franchise, which he’s already at work on.
However, speaking to Variety earlier this month, the Barbarian director made it clear he’d “definitely” be up for exploring another film set in the Weapons universe.
“I have another idea for something in this world that I’m kind of excited about,” he admitted. “I’m not going to do it next, and I probably won’t do it after my next movie, but I do have one and I’d like to see it on the screen one day.”
Weapons is in cinemas now.
