This midsummer weekend will bring a trainload of major events.
The biggest will be the Y-Live country music concerts, with headliners Jason Aldean on Friday and Eric Church on Saturday, at Stambaugh Stadium. Pre-parties will take place Friday and Saturday, starting at 2 p.m., on West Federal Street, downtown. Admission is free.
Intertwined with the Y-Live concerts will be the Summer Festival of the Arts on the Youngstown State University campus Saturday and Sunday. Click HERE for details.
Around the corner from all of the YSU action will be the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Summerfest, a Greek food and music festival. The church is at 220 N. Walnut St., across from Choffin Career & Technical Center.
A once-in-a-lifetime spectacle will chug into town Sunday, when Union Pacific Railroad’s locomotive No. 4014 – better known as “Big Boy” – will make a 30-minute stop in downtown Struthers, starting at 11:30 a.m. Big Boy, which is 130-feet long from its nose to the end of its tender, is the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. It’s taking a lap of the country as part of the semiquincentennial celebration. To learn more about the locomotive, click HERE. Theater, Wrestling Jazz
Also going on this weekend:
- The Mahoning Valley premiere of the Broadway hit musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” presented by Millennial Theatre Company, at the Youngstown Playhouse. Performances will start at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. For details, click HERE.
- Classic rock band Kansas (“Carry on My Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind”) will come to Robins Theatre in Warren on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. concert. For tickets, click HERE.
- Wrestling Under the Stars, with WWE Hall of Famers Lex Luger and Ron Simmons and many others, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 7 17 Credit Union Field in Niles. For tickets, click HERE.
- Jazz in the Park, the popular free concert series at Wick Park on Youngstown’s north side, will kick off at 3 p.m. Sunday. The headliner will be Urban Jazz Coalition, with special guest the NightCap Band. Urban Jazz Coalition has been impressing jazz and R&B audiences nationwide for more than 30 years. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
- And finally, the Trumbull County Fair will begin its six-day run Tuesday. The fairground is at 899 Everett Hull Road, Cortland. Learn more HERE.
