Viewers are curious to know why a new episode of It: Welcome to Derry didn’t premiere on November 2 on HBO. Created by Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, the supernatural horror series takes place in the 1960s and leads up to the first film adaptation of It. A family arrives in the fictional town of Derry with their son. As they arrive, bad things transpire. With new episodes usually dropping on Sundays, a recent shift in time for release has piqued curiosity.

Why HBO Max didn’t stream a new It: Welcome to Derry episode on November 2

It: Welcome to Derry Episode 2, titled “The Thing in the Dark,” premiered early on HBO Max on the special occasion of Halloween. The episode debuted on Friday, October 31, at 12:00 am PT. Later, it aired on its usual time on November 2 on HBO as well.

The series originally premiered on October 26, 2025, with each episode dropping every Sunday. However, last week saw a change of pattern in the release schedule due to Halloween. A new episode premiered earlier than expected on the streaming service, but was available to watch on HBO on Sunday.

In the previous episode, a group of four misfits embarks on a mission to find their missing classmate. Major Leroy Hanlon arrives at Derry Air Force Base but receives a mixed reception. Episode 2 features Charlotte and Will trying to settle into their new lives at Derry. Meanwhile, Ronnie’s worries about his father’s fate emerge.

HBO Max is a video-on-demand streaming service that offers top-notch quality content from various libraries such as Warner Bros., Discovery Channel, Adult Swim, TBS, and others. Its subscription tiers are as follows: $10.99/month (ad-supported) or the ad-free version for $18.49/month.
