NASHVILLE — Sequined boots tapped down theater aisles. Orange feather boas sashayed away to the best seats. And Eras Tour blue crew neck sweatshirts cozied into the leather cushions at the Regal Hollywood.
Taylor Swift’s “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” movie was an 89-minute celebration of her 12th era. The screening was advertised as “The Fate of Ophelia” music video with behind-the-scenes excerpts, and lyric videos of other tracks with Swift explaining her inspiration behind her “Showgirl” songs. And that was an accurate description of exactly what happened.
The music video will not be posted to YouTube until Sunday at 7 p.m. ET following the only three days the release party will play in AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters. Without any music video spoilers, the look won’t be surprising for fans who have been following Swift’s rollout of “The Life of a Showgirl” photos on social media.
AMC encouraged singing and dancing in the aisles, but all of the guests at the 2 p.m. showing stayed in their seats, bopping their heads to the beats and occasionally yelling out funny tidbits while Swift spoke.
When she got to discussing “Actually Romantic,” a diss track about a hater, one theater goer yelled, “You can tell us who it’s about,” and everyone chuckled. During “Wood,” giggles spread faster than popcorn munches. Swift insisting the song is purely about superstitions.
Important note for parents: All of the songs are the clean versions.
Holly McKenna and Terri Shotts were in Music City from Conway, Arkansas, and wanted to see the first showing.
“We’re just excited to be here,” McKenna said. ” I think Taylor is just fun and she speaks to everyone.”
“I want to find out a little bit more about the songs and stories behind the songs and maybe some of the secrets,” Shotts added.
Influencer and soon-to-be author Olivia Levin was hoping to learn more about Swift’s inspiration on her “Showgirl” album.
” I love events like these, because Swifties get to come together as a community,” she said. “It brings the online community in person, and we get to all see each other.”
Celebrate the official release of Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” in theaters Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5 at FilmScene.
The film opens with Swift addressing her fans directly, then wastes no time plunging into the premiere of the music video. Swift’s Eras Tour dancers, bandmates and backup singers make cameos. And behind-the-scenes videos show how the mastermind spent weeks perfecting the three-minute video that marries art history and Swift’s song seamlessly.
