Having taken over the summer of 2024 with her music, three-time Grammy Award winner Charli XCX has set her sights on owing cinemas in 2026.
The recording artist has a slew of movie projects in the works — including Dakota Johnson‘s directorial debut and an art-world thriller with Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega — and the first film reaching theaters is going to be one she conceived of herself.

The first trailer for The Moment didn’t spell out for viewers what exactly it is, seemingly blurring the line between fact and fiction. If you watched the preview and are feeling left in the dark like you’re wearing a pair of shades inside, here’s everything you need to know about The Moment.
What is The Moment?
The first trailer for The Moment would lead one to believe that it’s a run-of-the-mill music doc, chronicling the release of Charli’s 2024 album Brat, and that’s certainly the intention. But since the trailer also credits the pop star with creating the idea and frequent collaborator Aidan Zamiri with directing and co-writing it with Bertie Brandes, there’s clearly something else going on here.
In Vanity Fair, Charli described the movie as “a 2024 period piece,” created in response to the expectation that she generate a doc out of the release of Brat. “It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one,” she said. “It’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen.”
Who appears in it?
The movie is centered on a fictionalized version of Charli, and in the periphery, you’ll find a few familiar faces from the world of comedy including I Love L.A.’s Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, and Jamie Demetriou. The Moment also features Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, and Kylie Jenner.
When does The Moment open in theaters?
A24 is releasing The Moment in theaters on Jan. 30.
