Prince Harry and King Charles III seem to be on good terms after their recent meeting, but now what?
Hello! Magazine royal editor Emily Nash speculated that “it’s vital” for Charles, 76, to know “that he can trust his youngest son to keep their discussions private” in order for a real royal family reconciliation to take place.
Nash noted in an article published on Wednesday, September 10, that Harry’s “very public airing of private family matters” is what led to his estrangement from certain family members, especially Prince William.
“This was very much what Harry has been longing for,” Nash continued of the meeting. “A chance to see his father face-to-face and begin to rebuild what has been a very fractured relationship in recent years.”
News broke on Wednesday that Harry was photographed in the backseat of a car headed to Clarence House, Charles’ London home. Us Weekly understands that the father and son met for a private and brief tea, but further details have yet to be revealed.
“Yes, he’s great, thank you,” Harry told the press of his father after the meeting took place.
While Harry’s feud with the royal family stems back to his official departure in 2020, things have heated up in recent months. After Harry lost his appeal for government-funded security in the U.K., he spoke candidly to the BBC about the drama with his relatives.
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” Harry shared at the time, referring to his father’s ongoing cancer battle. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
The Duke of Sussex claimed that Charles “won’t speak to me” and told the outlet it would “be nice to reconcile.”
Harry also hinted that his father might have had a hand in the outcome of his appeal.
“There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” he added. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts [to] do what is necessary.”
Before Harry and Charles officially met, royal expert Marlene Koenig exclusively told Us that the king “certainly wants a reconciliation” with Harry.
“It would be on his terms, not Harry’s. True compromise will be difficult on both sides,” Koenig said. “I sincerely doubt that the king will respond to numerous demands from Harry.”
