The wait is finally over! The biggest movie of the year is finally out and fans are scrambling for any chance to watch it. Not only is The Odyssey the latest in Christopher Nolan’s recent epic films, but the cast that stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Tom Holland among other icons makes it the ultimate star-studded affair.
And while we can’t really say that you can get The Odyssey spoiled (y’all, it’s been 3,000 years), you’re going to want to watch this ASAP so you don’t miss out on all the spectacle.
Here’s everything you need to know about watching The Odyssey.
When is The Odyssey coming out?
The film was originally released on July 17, 2026, with some screenings starting on July 16 for those lucky few who managed to score tickets early.
How can I watch The Odyssey in theaters?
Well, the good news is that The Odyssey is currently playing on the big screen. The bad news is that you might not be able to see it in the format that you might want to watch it in.
Christopher Nolan’s intended format, IMAX 70mm, is not available everywhere as only 25 theaters in the United States have the ability to show it in this format. However, tickets for these not only were released last year, but most shows are also completely sold out. If you’re lucky, you might be able to still score a ticket. Otherwise, you’re going to have to check it out in a different format.
The next best case scenario would be to watch it in IMAX. While the screen is smaller than those in IMAX 70mm, you’ll still catch most of the action and will take in Nolan’s love of IMAX cameras. If that’s not available, there’s still Dolby Vision, which will look gorgeous especially in those sunset scenes. Then there’s regular 70mm and 35mm film as well as “premium large format” and well, whatever your theater might have. No matter what you pick, at least you got to support your local movie theater!
How can I watch The Odyssey at home?
Unfortunately, there’s no way to stream The Odyssey right now at home and it might take longer than most movies to come to home video. Christopher Nolan really wants you to see it on the big screen and that seems to be the goal for the film’s release. Right now, there’s no exact date for when it’ll be available for streaming, however, tickets to The Odyssey’s IMAX 70mm run is until August 3, so that might give us a bit of a clue.
Either way, we can definitely expect to see it on Peacock at some point, especially since the film is released by Universal Pictures and will follow the footsteps of Oppenheimer’s release.
You can also always rent it, buy it, and even get the physical editions of the film when it’s released. Either way, there will definitely be options when it comes to The Odyssey.
