Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich earlier reflected on the horror Ciri witnessed and what it represents for her as a character. “It represents a loss of innocence, but of course, I think a lot of people would say the Rats aren’t exactly innocent. She also acknowledged that the changes from books are intentional and are for a reason. “One of the things that our characters have to deal with is the trauma of losing someone and how that changes who you are and how you view the world. And there are several deaths this season that I think are unexpected and they change our characters in very different ways,” she explained.
