Ever since Sadie Sink was cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there’s been speculation about her character, with Marvel keeping details tightly under wraps.
Fans have theorized that Sadie could be playing everyone from Mary Jane Watson to Firestar, but the prevailing theory? That she’s playing Jean Grey. And it looks like the rumors are true, according to musician Steve Lacy—who’s featured on the soundtrack.
Speaking at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere last night (July 27) in L.A., Steve was asked about his favorite character and said, “Jean. I like Jean. She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness. I like her. I like her character.”
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, director Destin Daniel Cretton said of keeping Sadie’s role under wraps, “If people are gonna get mad, I can’t control that! I wish everything was a secret. But you’ll see when you watch the movie that there’s a very real reason not to tell people who Sadie Sink is playing. And I don’t think you’ll get mad at it. I think you’ll be like, ‘Oh, I’m glad I didn’t know that.’”
Keep in mind Steve could have been intentionally throwing fans off with his statement about Jean, so take this huge spoiler with a grain of salt. And find out who Sadie’s playing when Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on Friday, July 31.
