Alan Jackson, who was Karen Read‘s defense attorney in both of her trials, is now representing Nick Reiner, who was formally charged with murder on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old has yet to be arraigned.
Jackson confirmed Tuesday that he has been retained as the 32-year-old Reiner’s defense counsel. He has represented a number of high-profile clients, including acting as lead defense attorney for Read in her murder trials. She was ultimately acquitted at her second trial in June.
Jackson also represented Kevin Spacey in a 2019 indecent assault and battery case out of Nantucket. The actor was accused of groping an 18-year-old busboy at a local bar, but the charges were later dropped.
And he was once part of the legal team for movie producer Harvey Weinstein, who was found guilty of rape and other charges and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
Right now, Jackson is also representing Fraser Michael Bohm, who is accused of killing four Pepperdine University sorority sisters when he crashed into three parked vehicles in Malibu in 2023.
Jackson spoke with reporters outside of court in Los Angeles on Tuesday about when Nick Reiner is expected to make his first appearance in front of a judge.
“We’ll be back day today,” Alan Jackson said Monday. “The bailiff has indicated that the sheriff’s department has indicated that we’ll take it on a day by day basis.”
“Every single inmate goes through a medical clearance before than can be transported to court. Every one of them and that’s a process and he’s not yet been medically cleared.”
Jackson wouldn’t say what specific medical issue was preventing his client from being cleared.
Reiner had a history of battling addiction and was in and out of rehab for years.
On Tuesday, Reiner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, accused of stabbing his parents — famed director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner.
Sources tell NBC News that earlier that night, Nick Reiner was being disruptive at a holiday party held by Massachusetts native Conan O’Brien.
Reiner was arrested on Monday. Court records say that he could be arraigned as early as Wednesday morning.
