TOPEKA (KSNT) — The Kansas City Royals rarely have an off day on Saturday, but a World Cup match slated for the evening will split up the home series against the Cardinals.
The Royals homestand against the St. Louis Cardinals started Thursday, but the series takes a break Saturday in lieu of the World Cup matchup at Arrowhead Stadium. The stadium, temporarily called Kansas City Stadium because of FIFA rules, hosts Ecuador vs. Curacao at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.

None of the Royals’ 13 home matches during the World Cup will overlap. However, this is the only occasion where the Royals will have an off day in the middle of their remaining World Cup-era home series.
The move will hopefully give some breathing room for Truman Sports Complex which fans said struggled in Tuesday’s matchup with significant travel and parking challenges. KC2026 has since said changes will be in place to try and alleviate some of these issues.
A senior season to remember, capped off by a top high school state honor
The Royals already won the series against the Cardinals with a season-high 14 runs Thursday and a 6-5 close call win Friday. They will look to sweep St. Louis on Sunday at 1:10 p.m.
