Three years after their last song release, MUNA are back to save the world with new music, dropping the title track from their upcoming album, ‘Dancing On The Wall.’ Here, Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson and Josette Maskin bring strong vocals, indie pop beats and infectious joy, which are quintessentially MUNA.
‘Dancing On The Wall’ depicts a toxic, one-sided relationship, where the subject continues to put effort in despite the lack of response, likening the experience to talking to a wall. The toxic cycle continues, despite the frustration and pain captured in the lyrics: “you’re the wall that I keep banging my head against / I’m always saying, ‘this time, I’ll get through’ / I end up with a bruise as a consequence.”
The sound of the track parallels the topic addressed in the lyrics, opening with a strong danceable beat which is continued throughout. Gavin’s unique standout vocals ground the song, bringing further depth to the uplifting production. This combination creates a listening experience perfect for blasting on a summer road trip or dancing along to without a care.
