Jake Lacy says his time on Girls was a “dream job” come true, even if it meant costar Adam Driver may have nearly hit him.
While appearing on The Daily Beast’s Obsessed podcast, the White Lotus star said he “loved” being on the hit HBO series, adding that it’s “the only time” he’s been on a set “where the other person — it was not the social contract of acting in which you’re like, I’ll agree to do this and then you’ll agree to do that.”
Lacy elaborated by recounting a scene in which his character Fran Parker, who dates Hannah Horvath (played by Lena Dunham) in the fourth and fifth seasons of the series, attends an art show with Hannah to make her ex Adam Sackler (Driver) jealous.
“We shot that scene. I think maybe we blocked it, but not really rehearsed it fully and [I] was just standing next to Adam, and [I] was like, ‘Oh, this guy might hit me in this scene,'” Lacy explained.
“And that was so exhilarating,” Lacy added of the acting experience feeling more organic than staged.

Lacy continued to praise the Emmy-winning dramedy, saying, “I could ride my bike to work and show up and then have like some of the funniest, driest writing.” He added that he never felt anyone on set was “dictatorial” and the overall environment felt “really cool, fun, collaborative.”
Created by Dunham, Girls aired from 2012 until 2017 and followed the highs and lows of four young women living in New York City. Dunham costarred with Allison Williams who played Marnie Marie Michaels, Jemima Kirke who played Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet who played Shoshanna Shapiro.
In Dunham’s recently released memoir Famesick, the actress included both explosive personal revelations as well as accounts of Driver’s alleged violent behavior on the set of Girls — including that the actor once screamed in her face, chucked a chair at a wall that was next to her, and punched a hole in his trailer wall. Dunham also claimed that she and Driver nearly crossed an intimate boundary right before Driver got engaged to his now-wife, Joanne Tucker.
“There’s revelations in there that I’m like, I had no idea,” Lacy said of Dunham’s memoir.

Dunham, who was 25 when the series premiered in 2012, explained in an interview with The Guardian that she didn’t feel prepared to address Driver’s behavior on set during the show’s six-season run.
“At the time, I didn’t have the skill to… it never entered my mind to say, ‘I am your boss, you can’t speak to me this way,'” she said. “And, at that point in my 20s, I still thought that’s what great male geniuses do: eviscerate you. Which is weird, because I was raised by a male genius who would never do that.”
When asked about the revelations at a Paper Tiger press conference at Cannes in May, Driver replied, “I have no comment on any of that. I’m saving it all for my book.”
