Zoë Kravitz stepped out on her own this afternoon in New York City for her friend Taylor Swift’s wedding at Madison Square Garden, wearing a sheer, gold-embellished long-sleeve midi dress. Her fiancé, Harry Styles—who dated Swift over 13 years ago—was missing for a good reason. The British singer was invited, Variety revealed, with sources sharing that he unfortunately couldn’t make it due to his Together, Together Tour. Styles is performing tonight at Wembley Stadium in London and will be playing there tomorrow, too.
Swift and Styles are on good terms these days and have even been photographed chatting at awards shows in recent years.
In 2021, a source spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the evolution of their relationship. “[They] have been cordial and fine for a while now,” the insider said. “[Taylor and Harry] have both really matured since they dated and respect each other’s careers.”
The two singers briefly dated in 2012 and 2013. The relationship had its ups and downs, which seemingly inspired Swift’s 1989 songs “Out of the Woods” and “Style,” among other tracks.
In 2015, Swift spoke about the muse for “Out of the Woods” during a performance at the Grammy Museum. She said:
The number one feeling I felt in the whole relationship was anxiety. Because it felt very fragile, it felt very tentative. And it always felt like, “Okay, what’s the next road block? What’s the next thing that’s gonna deter this? How long do we have before this turns into just an awful mess and we break up? Is it a month? Is it three days?” And so, you know, I think a lot of relationships can be very solid and that’s kind of what you hope for, for it to be solid and healthy but that’s not always what you get. And it doesn’t mean that it’s not special and extraordinary just to have a relationship that’s fragile and somehow meaningful in that fragility.
Styles was later asked about the speculation Swift penned songs about him. He had kind words for his ex, telling Howard Stern in March 2020, “I think about what it means to me to write a song about somebody else and for somebody else to do that, it’s like flattering, even if the song isn’t that flattering, you still spent time on it and ultimately, using Taylor as an example, she’s a great songwriter. So at least they’re good songs.”
He added, “The only time you really think, ’is this song too personal?’ is if you think about, ‘is this going to be really annoying for the other person?’ Because I do [care].”
