Eric Roberts wasn’t among the guests who watched his daughter, Emma Roberts, marry actor Cody John at a home in Idaho on Saturday, July 25, but the King of the Gypsies star says he has nothing but love for his only child.
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” he told Page Six in a statement. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
Emma, who was born during Eric’s romance with his ex-girlfriend Kelly Cunningham, has had a fraught relationship with her father for many years. During an April appearance on Really Famous With Kara Mayer Robinson, Eric said he was a “car wreck” when Emma was born in 1991 and was “not to be depended on emotionally” due to his depression and addiction issues.
Eric added that his relationship with Emma is “not a straight” line but said, “I’m so proud of my daughter. I’m so proud of my kid. She didn’t start off as a great actor, but she became a great actor. She’s fabulous.”
Eric previously opened up about being an absent father in his 2024 memoir Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far. “I loved my little daughter with the strength of Hercules, despite my own weaknesses,” he wrote. “However, I couldn’t handle the realities of an infant coming into my life, and I couldn’t handle being a parent! I’m still not a father figure.”
At her wedding, Emma was walked down the aisle by her 5-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she shares with ex Garrett Hedlund. She wore a custom-made, vintage-inspired Monique Lhuillier dress, while Cody wore a classic black tuxedo.
The couple exchanged vows in front of celebrity guests including Ashley Benson and her husband, Brandon Davis; Demi Moore; Kristen Stewart and her partner, Dylan Meyer; Sarah Paulson; and Billie Lourd.
Emma’s aunt, Julia Roberts, who is also estranged from Eric, also attended with her husband, Danny Moder.
