Stranger Things Season 4 was massively successful for several reasons. From epic storytelling to strong character development, the Duffer Brothers didn’t leave any stone unturned to come forward with something visually spectacular and emotionally gripping. Although all the main characters did a phenomenal job, one character stood out with a performance so nuanced that it left a lasting impact on viewers, and that character is none other than Eddie Munson.
His sacrifice in the ending moments of the fourth season became a highlight, and people speculated that he might return in the fifth and final edition of the Netflix series. Now, putting rest to all such rumors, the creators of Stranger Things have finally addressed the fan theories and confirmed that the beloved character will “not” return for the final installment.
Can Eddie Munson make a comeback?
Speaking in an interview with Empire, Matt Duffer didn’t shy away from confirming Eddie’s fate and noted that the character is definitely not coming back. He said, “I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he’s dead. Joe is so busy anyway, that everyone should know he’s not coming back. He’s shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He’s fully under that ground.”
Eddie Munson turned out to be one of the most significant additions to the series. The character, who was a metalhead and a big Dungeons & Dragons fan, was the leader of the Hellfire Club, and that’s how he got to know Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and others. The electrifying sequence in which he plays Metallica’s Master of Puppets became an instant pop-culture moment and cemented Eddie’s legacy as one of the most unforgettable characters in the series.
Even though fans would have wanted to see Joseph Quinn returning for the series, it makes sense that he is not making an appearance this time around. His performance in the Netflix series made him a star, and he went on to become one of the talents to watch out for. Since then, he has played pivotal roles in many high-profile movies, including A Quiet Place: Day One, Gladiator II, and Warfare. Moreover, Quinn is now a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and was seen playing the role of Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. He will be reprising the character in the upcoming MCU titles as well.
While fans might not see Eddie on Stranger Things, Quinn’s journey has just begun, and with everything he is doing, his star is only set to shine even brighter.
