Jada Pinkett Smith’s legal dispute with Will Smith’s former friend, Bilaal Salaam has taken another turn. Salaam, who claims he was Will Smith’s close friend for nearly 40 years, is now requesting a judge to get Jada to answer questions under oath.
Bilaal Salaam reportedly requested a new Jada Pinkett Smith deposition
According to new report from TMZ, Bilaal Salaam has asked a judge for another order as he wants Jada Pinkett Smith questioned under oath. According to new court documents, Salaam wants Smith to appear for a deposition within 30 days. He claims he previously scheduled questioning for May 20. However, he claims Smith never showed up.
Salaam says he wants answers about alleged communications. He also wants to ask whether she approved threats against him. The lawsuit began back in 2025 where Salaam sued Jada seeking $3 million in damages.
He claims Jada was upset after he refused to help Will Smith following the actor’s slap of Chris Rock at the Oscars. As per Salaam, Smith later had third parties threaten him. According to him, it happened after learning about his planned memoir. In 2023, Salaam also claimed he saw Will Smith and actor Duane Martin in a sexual situation years ago. Smith publicly called those claims “nonsense” (via PEOPLE).
She also had strongly denied every allegation against her and has asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit. The court threw out most of Bilaal Salaam’s claims. Despite that, Salaam believes Smith’s testimony could help support his remaining claims.
He argues that a full deposition is necessary to gather more evidence. However, Smith’s legal team disagrees with that request. Her lawyers say she already answered similar questions before. They argue another deposition should only last one hour. According to them, both lawsuits involve many overlapping issues.
For now, nothing has been decided yet as the judge has not ruled on the request. The court will now decide whether Jada Smith must appear again.
