“Tell Me Lies” returns on Tuesday, Jan. 13, but will season 3 the last chapter for the Hulu drama series?
Series creator Meaghan Oppenheimer admitted that she’s unsure about the show’s future during an interview with Us Weekly published on Tuesday.
“In terms of future seasons, it’s impossible to really know at this point,” Oppenheimer said. “I certainly had always thought this was always more or less the ending I’d had in mind.”
Despite believing that season 3 is a natural conclusion for “Tell Me Lies,” Oppenheimer didn’t rule out a return.
“You never know what’s going to happen in the future. But there’s definitely a sense where I didn’t want to leave anything hanging this season. Basically, I wanted to satisfy everyone,” she said.
“Tell Me Lies,” which is based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel of the same name, centers on the toxic relationship between Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) over the course of eight years. The show alternates between two separate timelines: Lucy and Stephen’s days at the fictional Baird college and their mutual friends Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan’s (Branden Cook) wedding weekend years in the future.

White, who is dating Van Patten in real life, told People that his character Stephen goes full “super villain” in season 3.
“He started as a pretty ambiguous, ‘Oh, why is he doing [that]? What’s he doing? Who is this?’ And oh, ‘Where does he come from?’” White told the outlet. “But there’s no denying how malicious it all is now — the lengths he goes to.”
Van Patten also teased the drama that lies ahead in season 3, telling USA Today that Lucy and Stephen’s mind games go “beyond what I even thought toxic was” in the new episodes.
“I couldn’t even imagine these things if I wanted to,” she said.
The first three episodes of “Tell Me Lies” season 3 premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, Jan. 13. New episodes will drop weekly on Tuesdays after that.
