There is news of two expansions for Warner Music Group this morning, starting with a partnership in India with Kolkata-headquartered media group SVF Entertainment.
This is all about gaining a foothold in the Bengali music market, as Music Ally South Asia explained in its full report overnight.
SVF has produced more than 180 films and 30 TV shows in Bengali since its launch in 1995, and it also owns a video-streaming platform Hoichoi and record label SVF Music – with a catalogue of more than 2,000 songs. Warner Music India’s partnership with the company aims to help take more of that music “to the global stage”.
The second story today comes from Warner Music APAC, which is launching a global artist accelerator program called ‘Listen Up’. It aims to become a launchpad for promising artists from the region.
One of the first chosen for the program is C-Pop artist Gareth. T who is signed to Warner Music Hong Kong, who at one point in May was one of WMG’s top five globally-streamed artists.
‘Listen Up’ isn’t just for Asian artists, mind. It also has international acts including Barry Can’t Swim, Rachel Chinouriri, Cil and Daniel Seavey who’ll be earmarked for “APAC market opportunities”.
