Woah Vicky held her first-ever poetry reading in New York City.
The 26-year-old internet personality performed poems adapted largely from her own social media posts during a sold-out event at le PÈRE’s Lower East Side location on Saturday (June 20).
According to Rolling Stone and The Fader, Vicky’s tweets-turned-poems reportedly focused on themes like Christianity, personal reflections, her family history, and more.
Vicky, who describes herself as an evangelist, opened her set by leading the audience in prayer before reading pieces about her upbringing and future aspirations.
Recounting a poem about her father allegedly asking her mother to get an abortion, she joked, “There almost wasn’t a Vicky to say Woah to,” which drew laughter from the crowd. Another poem referenced her hope of one day adopting autistic children.
Rolling Stone reported that Vicky also referenced the Black family that “basically adopted” her as a 17-year-old and introduced her to Christianity during one of her poems.
“If I think of something good, something comes to my mind, or I hear something good, I just do it right then and there, because if I don’t do it, I won’t ever do it,” she told journalist Jeff Ihaza of her creative process.
When asked why she shares those thoughts publicly, she replied, “Because why not? They’ve been going viral.”
Woah Vicky, born Victoria Rose Waldrip, first gained viral fame in the late 2010s. As an online personality, she has been involved in online controversies, a feud with Bhad Bhabie, and other provocative content like faking her own kidnapping. In recent years, her content has focused on her religious convictions.
