To celebrate all members of the West Virginia University family and the local music scene, WVU Arts and Entertainment will host the first “Music on the Quad” concert Sunday (Oct. 5) on the Evansdale area of campus during Fall Family Weekend.

Scheduled performers include Grace Campbell, The Weevils, The 2 Sides and Atticus.

University students, faculty, staff and their families, and members of the community are invited to the free event featuring local and student acts from 2-6 p.m. on the Agricultural Sciences Quad, located near the Evansdale Library.

Grace Campbell, a Mon Hills Records artist, is a singer-songwriter from Princeton, a University alum, world traveler and classically trained vocalist. Her multifaceted influences have coalesced into a well-versed, intelligent young performer.

Her debut album, “Bloom,” showcases Campbell’s evolution from a budding songwriter into a full-fledged artist, navigating the challenges of adolescence to the identity crises common in young adulthood.

Emerging out of a friendship forged by fiddling, members of The Weevils are fans of “fiddle tunes and sad songs.” Members include Gray Buchanan, who is also part of the Hillbilly Biscuits and The Starlight Darlins; Mary Linscheid, a University alum from The Wild Shoats; and Claire Silbernagel from Sweaty Hands String Band and Bear Essentials.

Their collaborative arrangements of twin — and sometimes triple — fiddles and tight vocal harmonies weave a tapestry that tells a story along with the lyrics. At times, a traditional bluegrass or old-time number is included for good measure.

Also signed with Mon Hills Records, The 2 Sides is the dynamic country duo of Christian Teets and Caden Cook, known for heartfelt lyrics and energetic performances. Bringing a fresh take to country music, Teets and Cook draw inspiration from artists like Thomas Rhett and Brett Young, blending a traditional country sound with the occasional rock influence.

Atticus is a Morgantown indie-funk band made up of University students and an alum who bring good vibes, groove and an unpredictable setlist that always keeps the crowd moving. Band members are Samara Chamberlin, Connor Stricklen, Tim Shumann, Jackson Serpico and Jeremy Rogers. Their influences across various genres have allowed them to create a unique sound, merging captivating originals and groovy covers.

Mon Hills Records is an imprint of Mon Hills Music Group, a collection of independent record labels and acts that serve as the professional component of the University’s Music Industry program at the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media.

For “Music on the Quad,” the clear bag policy will be in effect.

Lawn chairs, blankets and unopened bottles of soft drinks and water will be allowed. Items that are prohibited include alcohol, coolers, umbrellas, hard containers and tents.

Free parking will be available for the event in lots 40, 43, 44 and 46. Because the PRT will be closed, buses will run on a continuous loop from 1:30-6:30 p.m. between the Mountainlair, the Evansdale Residential Complex and lot 43.

Fall Family Weekend, hosted annually by the Mountaineer Parents Club, is scheduled for Oct. 3-5.
