Sheppard Farm on Apple Hill offered a cow-brushing fundraiser during the Snack Town Street Fair on July 11 to benefit Christmas in Hanover.

York Book Fest – Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18 – WeCo Business District, 258 W. Market St and 280 W. Market St., York City – Local writers will be reading and selling their works during the two-day event. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, meet the York’s new poet laureate, Heath James Hardin, at Grace Manor B&B’s Courtyard at 258 W. Market St. On Saturday, at 10 a.m. Ophelia’s Making Agency in the Queue Building Gallery at 280 W. Market St., authors will be reading from their latest books until the day ends at 5 p.m. A children’s area will be hosted by Keystone Kidspace and feature children’s stories and fun activities.
Participating writers will include Malaika Carpenter, Tammi L. Morgan, Kate Brennan, Jadi Z. Omowale, Celeste Latrese, Kianga Jinaki, Andrew Chase, Beka Wueste, J. A. Wright, Jamey Gallagher, Lum Frundi, Rikka Gallas, Mary Rothwell, Westley Smith, Jason Prugar, Miles Watson, and Seth McLane.

Stuff The Bus in Red Lion – 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 3050 Cape Horn Rd, Red Lion. York County Regional Police are hosting a Stuff the Bus event to collect school supplies for local students in need through Growing Hands for Brighter Futures, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping children in need. Backpacks, pencils, crayons, folders, notebooks, folders, markers, glue sticks, lunch boxes, tissues/hand sanitizer and more are accepted.

Butterfly Express – 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, July 19 – Northern Central Railway, 117 N. Front St., New Freedom – Hop aboard the Northern Central Railway Butterfly Express with the York County Master Gardeners for a family-friendly ride and learn all about butterflies!
On this 3-hour experience, passengers will learn about the life stages of butterflies, why they are so important and how to include butterfly host plants to create a butterfly habitat at home. Children will color a butterfly craft that can “fly” with them on the train to the butterfly garden at Hanover Junction Station as Master Gardeners read a story during the train ride. Passengers can tour the Master Gardener butterfly garden and take part in activity stations at the garden. Each passenger is invited to take a butterfly host plant home with them to care for.
