Like every major mainstream series to make its way to HBO, The Last of Us has garnered as many avid fans as it is harsh critics since the show began in 2023.
Though a mere two seasons in length thus far, many viewers have fallen into two separate camps when it comes to The Last of Us’ narrative thus far.
While some have expressed their enthusiastic thoughts for the show’s harrowing opening seasons, others have taken on a more critical view of the HBO survival show, specifically citing Season 2’s slower pace as one of the series’ more obvious flaws.
Appearing on a recent episode of The Awardist podcast, The Last of Us’ star Bella Ramsey shared their own response to harsher fans of the series, bluntly reminded these viewers they don’t need to watch the series if they simply don’t enjoy it.
““You don’t have to watch it,” the 21-year-old Ramsey said when speaking about the show’s upcoming third season. “If you hate it that much, the game exists. You can just play the game again,” they said. “If you do want to watch it, hope you enjoy it.”
When asked whether they pay attention to criticisms of the show, Ramsey also said they tried to “steer clear” of negative press surrounding the series.
“Because there’s nothing I can do about it anyway,” Ramsey observed. “The show is out. There’s nothing that can be changed or altered. So I’m like, there’s not really any point in reading or looking at anything.”
“People are of course entitled to their opinions,” the Game of Thrones actor went on to say. “But it doesn’t affect the show, it doesn’t affect how the show continues or anything in any way. They’re very separate things to me. So no, I just don’t really engage.”
