Guesting on Detroit radio station WRIF’s Talkin’ Rock, guitar legend Zakk Wylde discussed the new Black Label Society album, Engines Of Destruction, Back To The Beginning, Pantera, and the possibility of new music, and more
With regards to the possiblity of Pantera .- featuring himself and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante teaming up with surviving members Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass) – Wylde offered the following:
“Everyone’s always asking about something like that, almost kind of like if Eric Clapton was playing with (Jimi Hendrix Experience members) Noel Redding (bass) and Mitch Mitchell drums), and if there was leftover material Jimi wrote that he didn’t record properly or whatever, and Eric is gonna play guitar on it and sing it. If it was this unfinished ‘Purple Haze’ song he had, or ‘Hey Joe’ or ‘The Wind Cries Mary’ or ‘Little Wing’ or something… he just recorded it on a tape recorder, so the song’s all there; it’s just that he didn’t record it. So I think there was thoughts of that, if there was leftover things and then we’ll just record ’em properly. But that’s all up to Philip and Rex. Me and Charlie are just there to support them in whatever the fellows wanna do.”

The lineup of Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown, Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul recorded a series of ground breaking albums before the band’s 1994 album, Far Beyond Driven, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, pushing Pantera to sell more than twenty-five million albums worldwide! In 2022, Billboard reported that Brown and Anselmo were reuniting in 2023 for Pantera’s first major tour in 22 years.
