Jennifer Garner hasn’t forgotten how scary it was when paparazzi chased her young children to get photos of her and ex-husband, Ben Affleck.
The “Alias” actor opened up about photographers trailing her kids during a stop by Evan Ross Katz’s Netflix series, “Shut Up Evan.” Garner has long advocated for child protections from paparazzi, and opened up about her own kids’ experience.
“It was totally ludicrous. And it felt like, ‘Poor little me, my poor little kids who have everything in the world,’ but it was a danger to everyone around us,” she shared in the episode.
Garner shared that if she “went through a yellow light, 15 cars would go through the red behind me.”
“They would drive up onto people’s lawns, even on a hillside. We were trying to have our little one play soccer, and the association asked us to stop because there were 20 cars coming [to games],” she said.
Things got even scarier when photographers shared little physical regard for the kids around them.
“If you show up and you’re trying to get into the pediatrician, and you have a sick kid on your shoulder, and you’re scared, and you can’t get into the door because you’re blocked by photographers, there’s something wrong with that,” she said, adding that “the kids are paying the price.”
“Kids were getting knocked over coming out of preschool by photographers who were so hungry to get to me or to Ben ― trying to get to our kids,” she said.
Garner and Affleck were married from 2005 to 2015. The two share three children together: Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.
Affleck has opened up about his own struggles with the paparazzi over the years and said he’s “a little bit shy.”
I also don’t like a lot of attention,” Affleck said in an interview with Kevin Hart on “Hart to Heart” back in 2024.
“That’s why people see me and they’re like, ‘Why’s this dude always mad?’ Because somebody has their camera and sticks it in my face, and I’m like, ‘OK, here we go.’”
“Also, because I’m with my kids, and they’re taking my picture,” Affleck said. “I don’t mind, you can take my picture at a club or a premiere, with my wife, I don’t give a fuck. Knock yourself out. I don’t notice you. But with my children that’s a different thing.”
