The Biblical drama, based on the life of Jesus, has primarily filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian since season 3. The show held its season 5 world premiere in Red Oak in March 2025, ahead of its three-part theatrical release over consecutive weekends just a couple weeks later.

Production on season 6 began in mid-April and wrapped in mid-September 2025.

The season 6 release date was revealed on Good Friday, April 3, with an Instagram post of a shot from the upcoming season, which focuses on the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life. The shot features actor Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, wearing a crown of thorns and carrying his cross on the way to his crucifixion.

In a YouTube livestream on Palm Sunday, series creator Dallas Jenkins said season 6 would release this fall, adding that final touches are being put on the season. Jenkins also noted that work on season 6 took abnormally long because of visual effects and because episodes are still being translated into various languages. Season 6 will also have a longer runtime than previous seasons.
