The 40 albums on the 2026 Polaris Music Prize long list, presented by Canada Council for the Arts, have been revealed, with albums from the Beaches, Angine de Poitrine and more making the cut.
The Polaris Music Prize is awarded to the best Canadian album of the year, regardless of genre or album sales. It has been handed out every year since 2006 to past winners such as Jeremy Dutcher, Kaytranada, Feist, Arcade Fire and more.
This year’s longlisted albums were selected from 202 records by 205 Canadian jurors (including several CBC Music producers). The winning artist will receive a $30, 000 cash prize courtesy of the Slaight Family Foundation.
Among the nominees are previous winners Tanya Tagaq and Kaytranada, who won in 2014 and 2016 respectively. Caribou who won in 2008, is nominated this year under his alter-ego Daphni. Peaches, who previously won the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize in 2015, and Beverly Glenn-Copeland, who won it in 2020, are also on this year’s long list.
Several artists have landed on the list for the first time, including Baby Nova, No Joy, Angine de Poitrine, Foxwarren, Julianna Riolino, Catherine Leduc, Pony, Nadah El Shazly, Slash Need, Boy Golden, Katie Tupper, Ora Cogan and Cootie Catcher.
Ten albums will be selected by the jury for the Polaris short list, which will be announced on July 9. Then, the winning album will be announced at a gala at Toronto’s Massey Hall on Sept. 22.
