Celebrating excellence
This Thursday, the 8th Annual Black Business Awards Recognition & Exhibition celebrates Madison’s Black-owned businesses. The event is the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce’s largest fundraiser. Attendees can view the Official Black Wall Street Exhibit, a traveling exhibit from the Tulsa Historical Society and Museum, and shop Black businesses at a local marketplace. The Era’s Ball, a black tie event, includes dinner and dancing at the Monona Terrace Convention Center, 1 John Nolen Drive. Tickets start at $175, and patrons can sponsor a ticket for a business owner.

Atlas Improv Co. celebrates 22 years of comedy with the Endurance Improv Festival March 26-28.

Endurance comedy
Known for unscripted movie spoofs, character-based improv and playful experimentation, Atlas Improv Co. celebrates 22 years of improvised comedy this weekend in Madison. The annual free Endurance Improv Festival starts Thursday at 7 p.m. and continues Friday with Theatresports (7 p.m) and long-form improv (8:30 p.m.). Saturday is the real marathon — from noon until 2 a.m., drop in for shows every half hour at 609 E. Washington Ave. Want to play? There’s an improv workshop at 11 a.m. Saturday focused on how to play a convincing villain. For that only, registration is required and the suggested donation is $20.

Mass extraordinary
A week before Easter, the Madison Bach Musicians present J.S. Bach’s “cathedral in sound” — the Mass in B Minor — played by period instruments, including Baroque winds and chamber organ. Andrew Megill from Northwestern University leads the orchestra and 14-member vocal ensemble at the Hamel Music Center, 740 University Ave., on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. with a lecture about the instruments 45 minutes before show time. The Sunday performance will be livestreamed (available through April 12). Tickets cost $10-$43.

Feel the power of the movie soundtrack at “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark™ Live in Concert” March 28-29.

Composer John Williams said “there was nothing I had to take too seriously musically” when creating the music for the “Indiana Jones” franchise, resulting in a score that feels as dramatic as its film source. Feel the power of the movie soundtrack at “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark™ Live in Concert,” a screening of the movie with the score played by the Madison Symphony Orchestra led by conductor Kyle Knox. Screening takes place in Overture Hall, 201 State St. Tickets cost $34-$114.

Instructors at Madison College are showing off their work at the school’s Faculty Show. The exhibit, which can be viewed at the Gallery at Truax, 1701 Wright St., Room A1005, allows the “broader college community a unique opportunity to experience the personal artistic practices of the faculty who guide their learning.” The opening reception for the show is on Thursday, March 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. Free.
