After a three-week break from performances, concerts in intimate settings by small classical music groups are scheduled from Aug. 24 to Sept. 1, closing with a Labor Day Gala.

The 2025 summer season may be winding down in Door County, but Midsummer’s Music offers a few more chances for music aficionados on the Peninsula to check out professional musicians in concert, up close, before summer draws to a close.
Midsummer’s Music’s season annually presents a run of more than 30 chamber music concerts in intimate locations across Door County from mid-June to early August, then takes a break of about three weeks before concluding its season with a kind of miniseries of seven concerts over the week and a half leading to the Labor Day holiday.
That’s the case once again as the Door County chamber music organization wraps up its summer season with two different concert programs played in seven concerts from Aug. 24 to Sept. 1, the finale being Midsummer’s Labor Day Gala fundraiser. (Yes, there are fall concerts on the way, too.)
As the term “chamber music” indicates, these concerts feature works played by small groups, from trios to octets, in interesting cultural and scenic sites. Throughout the full season, locations include art galleries, museums, churches, historic sites and private homes, with several offering views of Lake Michigan and the bay of Green Bay. The composers whose works are played by musicians from professional orchestras during a Midsummer’s season range from famed classical composers to lesser-known and contemporary composers.
The programs, concert dates and locations are:
- “César Franck Piano Quintet,” a concert offering Amy Marcy Beach’s Theme and Variations in A Minor, Op. 80; and Franck’s Quintet in F Minor: 4 p.m. Aug. 24, Hope United Church of Christ, Sturgeon Bay; 7 p.m. Aug. 27, Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, Ellison Bay; 3 p.m. Sept. 1, Labor Day Gala with guest emcee Geoffrey Sandler, Vail Hall at Björklunden, Baileys Harbor.
- “The Majesty of Schubert’s Octet,” with Grammy Award-nominated composer Gernot Wolfgang’s “Impressions” and Schubert’s Octet in F Major, D. 803: 7 p.m. Aug. 28, Vail Hall at Björklunden, Baileys Harbor; 7 p.m. Aug. 29, MUSE, Sturgeon Bay; 3 p.m. Aug. 30, The Clearing Folk School, Ellison Bay; 4 p.m. Aug. 31, Kress Pavilion, Egg Harbor.
Tickets for regular Midsummer’s concerts are $39.99 for adults, $19.99 for students, and free for ages 12 and younger when accompanied by a paying adult. Labor Day Gala tickets are $149 adults and $79 students. For tickets or more information, call 920-854-7088 or visit midsummersmusic.com.
